UCM Library reported that several spam accounts were added to their instance. These accounts were created through the “Register now” link that appears by default in the ASpace interface. Fortunately, these spam accounts are unable to view/edit any records without an admin granting access to specific repositories.
There is built-in functionality within ASpace to disable the "Register now" link, and we are looking into the details of its configuration. Before we make any changes, we’d like to get your feedback (yay or nay?) on disabling this functionality. This would mean that admins would be completely responsible for creating new users via System > Manage Users > Create.

The "Register now" link has been disabled with the upgrade to version 2.6.0. New user accounts will be created and managed by designated campus administrators via System > Manage Users > Create.

We will be disabling this option on all CDL-hosted instances, with the upgrade to version 2.6.0 this month.
